BUZZNET Exclusive: Vacationer's Kenny Vasoli Talks New Music Video, 'Trip'
The summer may be winding down with the dread of going back to work and/or adding another semester of school under your belt, however, why not take one last 'Trip' with the Vacationer's?
Well you're in luck...because on July 31st, the band added their latest video, 'Trip' to YouTube. The video, combinded with it's cool island sound plays host to a beautiful mesh of pictures and videos with that gritty homemade feel. It has you wishing yourself out of that boring bedroom and into another realm; one preferably near a beach and sans rain.
Overall, the new video is more than suitable for the song and 'Trip' could not have been achieved so greatly without a cool cinematography technique or effect known as Lomography. 'What's that,' you're asking? Well don't fret Buzznet!! Lead singer Kenny Vasoli was kind enough to talk to us about the concept behind 'Trip' and lomography itself!
Check it out:
Alana: Did the creation of 'Trip' come together sort of organically or did you and Dave Homcy [the director] prepare a storyboard or concept behind the video?
Kenny: Filming the video was completely organic. Prior to me coming to the island we had no plan of what to shoot. Dave came up with the idea of the the bike/spray-paint montage and we'd just have fun with the remainder.
A: Your videos do seem to come together thematically based upon the name of the band, Vacationer. How important is it for you to have fans see these videos and to be able to transcend whilst watching?
K: I like presenting the videos in a way that relates as seamlessly as possible with the music. The goal is not to juxtapose anything with the audio and visuals, I want one to inform the other. Once that's achieved, it's rare for anyone to be confused about what we are going for.
A: Could you briefly explain Lomography and how you came to collaborate with Lomography?
K: Lomography is a camera company that has remained loyal to film and analog technology, which we can totally get behind. They allow everyday Joe's like myself to capture images with the same warmth and texture that was so cool about vintage photography. The Trip video was shot primarily with the LomoKino hand crank film cameras. They supplied us with several Kinos and let us go to town. I think the choppy and slightly scratchy effect that comes from the footage complements the production of the music nicely.
A: There is so much beautiful imagery running through 'Trip,' where were most of these scenes filmed?
K: The video was filmed on Oahu's North Shore in Hawaii. Truly beautiful indeed.
A: You're about to embark on a journey (tour) with Bombay Bicycle Club, can we expect more videos while you're on the road!?
K: They did let me keep a camera for myself. I'm going to do my best to keep it cranking and capture more from our trips. Keep an eye on our Tumblr page for things of that nature.

What are your thoughts on the band's new video? Will you be making the 'Trip' to see Vacationer on tour this fall with Bombay Bicycle Bicycle club?!?!?
