2012 Oscar Predictions: Who Will Win And Do They Deserve It?
It's been a morning of excitement for actors, actresses and movie fans alike as 2012 Oscar nominations were announced! As a movie lover I adore the awards season. With that being said, I thought it would be fun to list predictions on who will win the major awards and if these predicted winners best deserve the awards. Check it out!
Best Picture:
Who will win? The Artist
The Artist is a big contender for the best picture. The film starring Juan Dujardin, Bérénice Bejo, John Goodman and James Cromwell follows the life of silent movie star, George Valentin (Dujardin). Set in Hollywood during the 1920's, it is perpetuated by Valentin's desire to remain popular in a fading industry, that being the silent film industry. The Artist beat out The Descendants for the Critics' Choice Award for best picture and took home the Golden Globe for best motion picture in a comedy or musical.

Do they deserve it?
It's hard to deny that The Artist was a great film. At first I thought, ah thats not too hard, they don't even have to remember their lines. However, silent film may be an art form even more difficult than talking films because instead of relying on dialouge and how it's delivered, one must focus purely on how the cast delivers emotion via their body language and expressions. Therefore the actors and actresses must truly sell the story. Based upon this fact, The Artist is very much worthy of the prestigious award, however, in my heart of hearts I personally feel like The Help deserves this award. Critics, on the other hand find The Help to be more of a fan favorite as many prefer it over a silent film like The Artist.
Best Actor in a Leading Role:
Who will win? George Clooney for The Descendants
It's without a doubt that George Clooney will snag the pretty golden statue for The Descendants. The film, revolving around Matt King's (Clooney) need to re-connect with his two daughters after the loss of his wife has earned handsome George both the Critics' Choice Award for Best Actor as well as a Golden Globe in the same category.

Do they deserve it?
Although Juan Dujardin was wonderful in The Artist, I feel that Clooney does deserve this award. However, I find it funny to mention that I actually prefer George's role in The Ides of March over The Descendants but then again it was Ryan Gosling that truly owned The Ides of March and many find it to be a big snub that Gosling fails to be nominated for his amazing performance.
Best Actress in a Leading Role:
Who will win? Meryl Streep for The Iron Lady
Meryl may have lost the Critics' Choice Award to Viola Davis for The Help but she ended up taking home the more prestigious Golden Globe, making it a tough race between the two. Winning the Globe definitely puts Streep at a greater advantage for taking home the Oscar.

Do they deserve it?
I mean, we all know that Meryl Streep is an amazing actress. Her transformation into Margaret Thatcher, the controversial, conservative Prime Minister of Great Britain (1979-1990) in The Iron Lady is fantastic. Now Meryl's perfomance deserves credit even though the movie fell to capture audiences but in my heart, I truly want Viola Davis to win the Oscar for The Help. Sorry Meryl.
Best Actor in a Supporting Role:
Who will win? Christopher Plummer for Beginners
Plummer has racked up the awards for best actor in a supporting role for his work in the Beginners, in which Oliver Fields (Ewen McGregor) finds out that his father, Hal Fields (Plummer) is both dying of cancer and is actually homosexual.

Do they deserve it?
Without a doubt! Plummer's performance is just so alive and electric. The other nominees really can't touch him.
Best Actress in a Supporting Role:
Who will win? Octavia Spencer for The Help
Octavia Spencers role as Minny Jackson, a sassy and smart house maid during the 1960's in The Help has earned Spencer both the Critics' Choice Award and the Golden Globe for best supporting actress makes her the favorite and top contender for this Oscar.

Do they deserve it?
Now Jessic Chastain definitely deserves credit for The Help and it's pretty awesome to see Melissa McCarthy being nominated for Bridesmaids but I feel that this award should go to Octavia Spencer, hands down!
